Did You Know: The Academic Calendar
The Academic Calendar is a very important document that helps you to keep track of University deadlines. It contains registration and drop deadlines, payment and refund deadlines, University closings, and more! Some important registration deadlines and details are highlighted below for your convenience. Refer to the Academic Calendar page and PDF for specific dates and deadlines.
What is the Add/Swap Deadline?
This is the last day that you can add, swap, or drop a class on your own through Orion Student Center. If you receive registration errors, follow the instructions at the bottom of this page for assistance. While you can still drop a class after this deadline, you will need to email ATECadvising@utdallas.edu for assistance.
What’s the Difference Between Dropping and Withdrawing?
Removing a class from your schedule on or before Census Day is dropping. Removing a class after Census Day is withdrawing. If you drop a class, no record of enrollment in the class will appear on your transcript. If you withdraw from a class, a record of your withdrawal will appear on your transcript. You are also limited to 6 academic withdrawals across all public colleges and universities in Texas. More information about the 6-course withdrawal limit can be found here. Dropping a class by Census Day does not count toward the 6-course withdrawal limit.
When Do I Need an Advisor’s Help to Drop or Withdraw from a Class?
After the Add/Swap deadline, you will not be able to drop a class without the assistance of an advisor. Follow the instructions at the bottom of this email to drop or withdraw with an advisor’s assistance. If you prefer, you can submit a Registration Add, Drop, & Withdrawal Form to the front desk of the ATEC Advising Office (ATC 3.605). See below for more info about withdrawing from classes.
What is Census Day?
Census Day is the last day to drop a class without receiving a W on your transcript. Dropping a class may impact your tuition bill and financial aid. Therefore, please consult with the UTD Bursar’s Office and Financial Aid Office to determine how dropping a class might impact your tuition bill and financial aid. After Census Day, students who do not withdraw from all courses are not eligible for a tuition refund.
How Do I Drop or Withdraw from All of My Classes?
You may drop all of your courses by visiting the UTD Registrar’s Office (1st floor of the SSB) or emailing Records@utdallas.edu. Please notify your advisor if you are intending to drop or withdraw from all of your courses. If you need to drop all of your classes, you may be eligible for a full or partial tuition refund. See page 2 of the Academic Calendar PDF for specific info. Complete withdrawals do not count toward the 6-course withdrawal limit.
What is the Withdrawal 'W' Deadline?
After the Withdrawal 'W' deadline date, students can still withdraw from classes until the Withdrawal Late 'WL' deadline. Students who withdraw from classes during this period receive a 'W' on their transcript. Withdrawals must be processed by an advisor. Students are limited to 6 withdrawals across all public colleges and universities in Texas. More information about the 6-course withdrawal limit can be found here.
What is the Withdrawal Late 'WL' Deadline?
The Withdrawal Late 'WL' deadline is the last possible date to withdraw from classes during the semester. Students who withdraw from classes after the Withdraw 'W' deadline and before the Withdrawal Late 'WL' deadline receive a 'WL' on their transcript. This type of withdrawal can only be processed by the Registrar’s Office but first requires advisor permission. You are limited to 6 withdrawals across all public colleges and universities in Texas.
