Sound Booth Policies and Procedures

Sound booths are available for checkout during the COVID-19 pandemic with some restrictions.  Please make sure that all policies and procedures for the sound booths are followed at all times, for your safety and the safety of others.  Violation of these policies can result in the loss of access to the sound booths for the remainder of the semester.

 

Reserving a Sound Booth

Sound booths are now available by reservation only.  Each sound booth has two available reservation slots per day, one in the morning from 8:00am - 1:00pm and one in the evening from 1:30pm - 6:30pm.  This ensures that Tech Resources can sanitize the space and equipment for each user.  These time slots are for one person only.  Groups are not allowed in the sound booths at this time.  

Please be aware that due to sanitation procedures the AKG P220 condenser microphones will have limited availability and are not guaranteed In addition, Tech Resources is not providing headphones due to sanitation concerns.  Please bring your own headphones or use the speakers in the room (at a reasonable volume) to monitor your recordings.  To reserve a sound booth time slot please email atec_tech@utdallas.edu from your UTD email or call at (972) 883-7515.  When contacting Tech Resources about reserving a sound booth please provide the following information:

  • The date and time slot you wish to reserve (morning or evening)
  • The type of microphone you wish to use (dynamic or condenser).  Be aware that you will not be able to request a different microphone once your reservation has been confirmed
  • The class you are requesting the sound booth for

After Tech Resources has received all of the above information and verified your requested timeslot is available, you will receive a confirmation email with all of the information concerning your appointment.

 

Checking Out a Sound Booth

When coming in for your sound booth appointment please visit the service window in the Open Lab (ATC 2.302).  You will need to show your Comet Card to the lab tech on shift to verify your reservation.  We will not be holding on to Comet Cards during the COVID-19 pandemic for sanitation reasons.  The lab tech will then walk you up to the sound booth that has been reserved for you and let you in.  Your requested microphone will be setup for you in the space.

 

Policies for Using a Sound Booth

Please be aware that there should only ever be one person in a sound booth at a time.  Violation of this policy will result in the immediate loss of sound booth privileges for the semester.  This is a zero tolerance policy.  Please be aware for security purposes the sound booths have cameras that will be monitored at all times. 

If you need to leave the sound booth temporarily during your reservation please make sure that the door is locked and closed behind you.  Call (972) 883-7515 to have a lab tech let you back into the room. 

When you are finished with your recording please call the lab techs at (972) 883-7515 and inform them that you have finished with your session.  After informing the lab techs via phone and making sure the equipment in the space is in the same condition as when you entered, you may leave the sound booth.  You do not need to wait for a lab tech to check the room.  Please make sure the door is locked and closed securely behind you after you leave.  Leaving the sound booth unlocked, leaving the door open, or taking equipment from the room can result in bans on sound booth usage.
