Internships as Credit in ATEC

ATEC students may enroll in ISAE 4V50 for 1 - 3 hours of course credit per semester that they are employed in an internship. This course is a credit/no-credit course. ATEC students may earn a total of 6 hours of credit from ISAE 4V50 enrollment. Internships are not required in the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication. Internship courses can count as upper-level free electives on all ATEC degree plans and pathways; it cannot be used for Prescribed Elective or Major Requirement credit. If you have further questions on how this will count on your degree plan, please contact your advisor.

To be eligible for internship credit, undergraduate students must

  • have completed 24 hours of college-level coursework before the internship semester.
  • have completed 12 hours at UT Dallas before the internship semester.
  • have at least a 2.5 GPA or prior authorization.

The internship must:

  • enhance student learning and development.
  • last at least 6 weeks from the time of enrollment in the course.

Course Enrollment Equivalency

The amount of hours that you may earn for your internship is determined by the total work hours of the entire internship.  This is the maximum hours that you may receive for the semester.  However, a student may choose to enroll in less hours than the maximum.

3 credit hours 240+ work hours
2 credit hours  160+ work hours
1 credit hour 80+ work hours

Tuition, based on the enrolled credit hours, and fees associated with the internship course will be assessed.

International (F1) students must be enrolled in at least 1 semester credit hour in each internship semester per CPT guidelines.
