The render farm (rrSubmitter) will load all your Maya file settings in order to render. For a successful render job, we first need to set up your Maya file before sending it through the farm.
- Anything that is not shown to change, should be left DEFAULT!
1. File name and Image format for the file output (.exr, tif, jpeg, etc): Under Render Settings > Common > File output write the prefix for your renders and the image format desire. Once the project is set, you need to give your file the correct prefix in the render settings
The prefix should be this: /filename (If didn’t set a layer, the dafault is “master”)
2. Correct Frame Range for the scene: go to Render Settings > Common > Metadata and change the "Frame/Animation ext to "name.#.ext" . Under Render Settings > Common > Frame Range check that the start frame and end frame are correct.
3. Correct Renderable camera: Under Render Settings > Common > Renderable Camera choose the camera you would like to render from. Be sure to delete all the other unused camera from this menu
4. Render Image Size: Change the image size to the one desired under Render Settings > Common > File Output
5. Correct Sampling: Under Render Settings > Arnold Renderer > Sampling be sure to check that you have the desire sampling. It is important to not over sample the job (This will cause longer render times). For test renders a sampling of 3/1/1/1/1/1 is recommended. For Final renders a sampling of 6/2/1/1/1/1 is recommended.
Check “Lock Sampling Pattern” ON and Indirect Clamp Value to 1.
*Specular, SSS and Transmission MAY need to be increased, depending on noise in those Passes (Cleans up Indirect Lighting) Ray samples may need to be bumped up on individual lights for clean up Direct Noise.
MAX Light Samples should not exceed 2.
Things to Check for BEFORE submitting to the Farm
The render farm runs on Linux. The network configuration of the ATEC building and labs can cause the communication (copying files, etc.) between Windows lab machines and the render farm to be slower than the same activities performed locally.
In addition, Linux and Windows have different conventions for file names which are important to understand. These are some general rules you may want to follow in order to have a successful job render through the farm:
1. It is all about the Paths: If you DO NOT open your maya file from the Infinity drive and set project to the Infinity drive, you will crah with file path errors. The most common errors by far is related with file paths. For example, All texture paths needs to be dynamic, meaning that it does not point to a hard coded position on the computer, but it dynamically points to the master folder of the project. If not, the renderfarm would not be able to find this texture because it doesn't exist where it is looking for. This apply to Xgen as well. To have a successful render job, you would need to check if the paths are dynamic.

2. Another common issue is placing spaces in folder names. Windows accepts them, Linux DOES NOT. Good practice is to not put spaces in your folder names, period.
3. Abort on Error is checked OFF
