Meet the Undergraduate Advisors
ATEC Undergraduate Advisors guide current UTD students through the degree requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication. Advisors help students understand the different ATEC pathways and courses within the degree in relation to their aspirations. To ensure that each student has a tailored experience, each student is assigned to an advisor based on their last name. This allows each advisor to cultivate a lasting relationship with their advisees and provide information that is relevant to the student's experience. ATEC academic advising is a collaborative process and requires active participation by both the student and the advisor. Ultimately, the student is responsbile for their own educational experience.

Meet the Advising Peer Mentors
Advising Peer Mentors are current ATEC students who have been trained to assist current and prospective students in navigating the ATEC pathways. As Advising Peer Mentors, they meet with students to assist with schedule planning and registration, demonstrate advising technology, discuss the program with prospective students, and develop and implement programming for their peers. Additionally, they run our front desk, answering the phone and email, checking in students for appointments, and assisting with paperwork.

Current ATEC Students
Students currently enrolled as an ATEC major may meet with their assigned advisor to discuss their graduation requirements, degree plan, future planning of courses, and any other academic questions or concerns that they have about their major or pathway. Students who need assistance building their schedule for the upcoming semester are encouraged to meet with an Advising Peer Mentor. Changing Your Major to ATEC
Students who would like to change their major to ATEC, must meet with the advisor assigned to their alphabet. During that meeting, your advisor will discuss how your completed courses will fit in the ATEC major, and how to apply to the different pathways of ATEC. All changes of majors are placed on the design and production subplan. If you are interested in a different pathway, be sure to discuss this in your change of major meeting. Once you meet with an advisor, you may submit a request to change your major to ATEC with a Design and Production subplan through Orion.
Prospective Students – Visiting ATEC and UTD
All prospective student appointments are conducted by our Advising Peer Mentors. During this appointment, questions about the ATEC major, pathways, ATEC-specific scholarship, and ATEC academic questions will be discussed. While you are here on campus, we recommend that you also:
- Take a campus tour. Walking tours are offered each week day at 10:00AM and 2:00PM. You must schedule a campus tour online by visiting www.utdallas.edu/enroll/visit/campus-tours.
- Take a housing tour. Residence Hall tours are offered each weekday at 12:30PM. University Village Apartment tours are available upon request. You may schedule a housing tour by visiting www.utdallas.edu/enroll/visit/campus-tours.
- Schedule an appointment with a pre-admissions counselor at www.utdallas.edu/enroll/contact/pre-admissions-counseling to discuss admissions requirements and transfer credit articulation.

An advisor is assigned to answer these requests. They are answered in the order they are received. Emailing your advisor a registration request will not get the request processed faster. Once you are registered for the course, you will receive an email confirmation from ATEC Undergraduate Advising.
It is the student's responsibility to check that the correct course was added to their schedule, and to follow-up that the course is appropriate for their degree plan and graduation requirements.
